Checking on your elderly loved one(s) in a care facility involves monitoring their physical well-being, observing staff interactions, and keeping consistent lines of communication open with the facility team.
Key Areas to Observe During Visits
Personal Hygiene & Appearance: Check if your parent is clean, wearing fresh clothes, and has groomed hair and trimmed nails.
Living Space: Look for a clean room, tidy bed linens, proper waste removal, and functioning personal equipment (like glasses or hearing aids).
Physical & Emotional State: Notice changes in weight, energy levels, bruising, mobility struggles, mood shifts, or signs of withdrawal or fear.
Staff Interactions: Observe how caregivers talk to and handle your loved one looking for gentle eye contact, patience, and prompt responses to call buttons.
When the staff of the care facility knows you are coming for a regular visit time, teams get on their toes, sharpen their pencils and check to make sure everything is well!
If your gut tells you something is wrong with their care, there probably is!
With your permission, we can investigate up front or undercover to learn what care they receive in your absence!
